The Great British Beer Festival enticed more than 64,000 beer enthusiasts through the doors of Earls Court this month, marking a 7% increase on 2008 and its largest attendance to date.
The show’s organiser, Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), had further cause for celebration as it reached its landmark 100,000th member during the show.
Jon Howard, CAMRA spokesperson, said: ‘The success of the Festival and CAMRA’s landmark 100,000th member celebration, shows that consumer interest in real ale continues to grow. There was such an exciting mix of people walking through the doors, with adult drinkers both young and old, including a large number of women. We now look forward to 2010, with preparations for the event beginning in the next few weeks.’
Jeremy Rees, Exhibition Sales Director at EC&O Venues added: “The success of this year’s show demonstrates the continued importance of such events for both the beer industry and consumers alike. Our excellent customer service and accessible central London location continue to draw impressive crowds even in such difficult economic times.”
Among the features at this year’s event was a Girl’s Guide to Beer Tour which encouraged women to sample a variety of different beer styles guided by expert Melissa Cole.
The winner of the Champion Beer of Britain competition was also unveiled as Rudgate Ruby Mild (York).
