Staff from Earls Court and Olympia entered into the spirit of Green Britain Day by clearing the rubbish from a protected area of woodland on the edge of the Olympia site. On Friday 10th July around 15 members of staff from the West London venues willingly gave up their time to clear rubbish that had been fly tipped on the site. Among the many unusual objects recovered were; a sofa, several shoes, saucepans and a kitchen sink. The team had previously consulted the Woodland Trust and were careful not to disturb the nesting wildlife. More work is planned on the area in the Autumn.
The venues’ Sustainability Advisor Emma Wellman led the initiative. She said: “Projects such as these have become an integral part of the venues’ culture. We’re committed to having a positive impact on our local community and this is just one project that we’ve been working on to assist our surrounding neighbourhoods.”
The project is just one element of EC&O Venues’ ongoing commitment to both the environment and the surrounding community. Within its varied programme of CSR initiatives is sponsorship and support of the Earl’s Court Festival. As well as this the team is forging ahead with a project to redevelop a site at a local school.
