EC&O Venues, in conjunction with the Real Food Festival, has launched a roof garden at its iconic Earls Court site. The plot will house both vegetables and herbs, and forms part of the Capital Growth scheme launched by Rosie Boycott, Chair of London Food. The scheme aims to transform 2,012 pieces of land into thriving green spaces to grow food by 2012. Produce from the Earls Court garden will be used by the venue’s staff-canteen which provides for around 400 employees and tenants.
The Real Food Festival took place at Earls Court from the 8th – 10th May and organisers arranged small tours of the plots for visitors to the show.
Among the show’s other highlights were some of the UK’s top chefs in action as well as livestock ranging from water buffalo to chickens and hundreds of the best food and drink producers from across the country.
Show director Philip Lowery said: “We are delighted to be getting involved with the LDA’s Capital Growth Scheme, which aims to get more people growing food in our capital city. To be able to create this growing space on one of London’s most iconic buildings is a huge bonus and we are really pleased that Earls Court was excited about the idea as we were.”
